Welcome to Bakers Lane Books, a small, independent Australian-based publisher of fiction and non-fiction and home of the Fearless Prize.

Our Story

Founded in 2025, Bakers Lane Books is an independent publisher of quality Australian fiction and non-fiction. We’re dedicated to championing new and emerging voices, and we love to nurture Australian writers. We’re a small team, which means each Bakers Lane book is guided through every step of the publishing process with passion and care.

Our imprints include Bakers Lane Books and Fearless Press. Bakers Lane Books publishes works of literary and commercial fiction and general non-fiction for adults. Our imprint Fearless Press publishes the work of Australian women writers in all their diversity. Our very first title will be published in late 2025 under the Fearless imprint. Stay tuned for the announcement later this year of a new prize in publishing, the Fearless Prize.

Our Mission

At Bakers Lane Books and Fearless Press, we believe that storytelling and reading are fundamental to how we learn about the world and understand ourselves. We recognise that there are considerable barriers to the publication and promotion of writers in the Australian market, including a gender bias. The purpose of Bakers Lane Books and Fearless Press is to publish books by Australian writers, particularly new voices and women writers in all their diversity, and contribute to a rich and more equitable national literary landscape.

Fearless Prize 2025

Later this year, we will launch the first Fearless Prize, an annual prize of $10,000 as an advance against royalties and publication of an original work of fiction by a debut female novelist. Stay tuned for more information on the prize.

Always was, always will be Aboriginal land.

Baker Lane Books would like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the lands on which we have the privilege to work. Bakers Lane was founded on the lands of the Gundungurra and Dharawal peoples and operates on the lands of the Gadigal and Wangal peoples.

We are committed to honouring the rich culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples of this Country and extend our gratitude and respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and to all Elders past and present, for their wisdom, resilience and for helping this Country to heal.
