When her mother’s death leaves her unable to produce work for a major, career-defining exhibition, a devastated Alice returns to her rural hometown to sort through the family house. Days slip into weeks as she drifts through the rooms, sleeping too much, drinking too much, caught in memories of her unhappy childhood and the best friend who saved her then abandoned her without warning.

Told in a dual timeline, the novel follows 39‑year‑old Alice in the present and 16‑year‑old Alice in the past as she confronts the wounds she has long avoided to makes peace with her history and reclaim herself and her creative spark.

Helen holds a Graduate Diploma in Communications in Creative Writing from the University of Technology, Sydney. She is currently a communications coach for a large corporation and has previously worked as a corporate writer and oncology social worker.

She is based in Sydney and lives with her young adult triplets and two dogs.
